Selection process & deadlines
- Applicants who meet requirements and pass entry tests are ranked for available places.
- Ranking score is calculated based on: official language grade from high school plus Biology & Chemistry entry test results multiplied by 3.
- Example: maximum possible ranking score is 42.
- Deadline for submission of application documents: by 15 June 2025 (for the year in example) for most non-EU applicants.
- For UK applicants the deadline may differ (for example 01 Sept).
- Because the whole process (including visa type “D”) takes about 2-3 months, early application (April/May) is strongly recommended rather than waiting to the deadline.
Next steps after submission
- Once the Admission Committee approves the application, documents are submitted to the Local Directorate (RUO) of the Bulgarian Ministry of Education for verification — this usually takes about one month.
- After that, the full set of documents (including verification certificate) goes to the Bulgarian Ministry of Education & Science, which issues either a “Certificate on the right of the applicant to study” (for visa “D”) or a denial. This may take up to a month.
- After this, the University notifies the candidate and issues its own MUV Certificate (an administrative fee of €5.11 must be paid in advance). After this, the University notifies the candidate and issues its own MUV Certificate (an administrative fee of €5.11 must be paid in advance).
- Following receipt of both certificates, the applicant must apply for a student visa type “D” at the Bulgarian Embassy in their country.
